DESIGN MODIFICATIONS AND MOVING ELEMENT IDEAS

Above is an image of the projects progress that I presented to my client (Tutor). It shows a bridging between the school gym space and adjacent building to the square house on the left, and on the right a bridging between the square house and the block house. My theory 'Generosity through porosity " was the basis of the designs, as there a many green spaces for the public to interact with the 'technically' private university spaces. This is exemplified in the large open space between the structures on the left, and beneath and around the structure on the right. However, after consulting with the client (Tutor), the following notes where taken to better the design:

It became apparent that the form on the left was awkward and the sharp edges violently disturbed the flow and energy of people trying to enter the space, as well as passing traffic on Anzac parade. Hence, it was suggested that a more relaxed and curved facade should be implemented, to direct people into the structure in a more welcoming and natural manner. On this curved facade it was also proposed that some kind of seating platform is added.

For a moving element, an idea was developed involving the above component of the building. Because the space is so open, fold-able members can be used to customise how much of the space is open or closed. This plays on the "Generosity through Porosity" theory, as the bridging between the public and private spaces can be changed to best suit the situation.

For the structure on the right, the connection to the block house is it be adjusted to finish flush with the corner of the block house. Also, it was proposed the a public seating space is to be built along to face opposite the roundhouse. This is to encourage more public events outside the round house, making a more generous environment by linking the social and academic spaces of the campus.
